When my yoga-ing, detoxing guests tell their friends and colleagues that they're going on a yoga detox retreat for their annual holiday, the response is very often one of surprise / shock / concern for their friend's mental health / complete wonder as to WHY?! WHY would anyone in their own right mind not have a holiday where one has the luxury of sleeping in until noon, of eating generous portions of delicious restaurant / hotel food, of drinking lavish amounts of alcohol without worrying about the consequences... etc. etc.?? BUT, when these same detoxing yogis return home after a week of healthy living, their friends and colleagues ask them what their secret is - how come they look so different - so... so happy..., alive..., vibrant..., beautiful?! The best part is that not only do they look like this - happy, alive, vibrant, beautiful..., they FEEL all these things too!! Have you ever watched children playing and been in awe of their endless supply of energy - to run, to skip, to laugh, maybe even cry and to then start all over again? Well, the energy you have after a week of juice fasting, yoga, meditation, spending time in nature and laughing with fellow detoxers is something akin to this. And do you remember how it feels to fall in love - to not have a care in the world... and to see everything and everyone as totally perfect and beautiful? You went on a Yoga Detox Retreat and discovered the tools for healthy living - a healthy diet; the practice of a calm and relaxing activity such as yoga, Tai-chi or meditation for peace of mind and the importance of taking time out for re-connecting to Spirit / your True Self. Knowing all this is one thing, but practising it and experiencing it is quite another...
