A juice fast and colon cleanse is done primarily to cleanse, heal and strengthen the digestive system.
A healthy digestive system is essential for over-all health. Once the digestive system has been optimised, the body is better able to absorb the nutrients it needs from a healthy diet, and to discard any toxins it doesn't need.
The detox cleanse is a liquid only fast - fruit and vegetable juices (organic as much as possible), vegetable broth, herbal teas and plenty of water. The exclusion of solids from the diet ensures a rest for the digestive system, and helps the body to flush itself out.
In addition to the liquids, you take:
various and specific cleansing herbs and supplements
to assist with the cleanse.
Enemas can also be used to facilitate additional detoxing and cleansing of the bowel and colon.
The majority of people have a build-up of hardened toxic deposits on the intestinal wall which the body battles to get rid of. These deposits (mucoid plaque) can impede the necessary absorption of nutrients through the intestinal walls, preventing the body from obtaining what it needs to be healthy and strong. Even with a healthy diet, the body may not be absorbing enough goodness. This detox retreat focuses on removing such deposits and restoring optimum intestinal functioning... which leads to over-all good health!

why detox in a retreat setting?
The natural setting of a retreat encourages your senses to take a break from the bombardment of sensory information which is so often the case in today's fast pace living. Once the senses slow down, the mind slows down... - life slows down, and you remember who you are!
On a juice fasting detox, your sense of taste is automatically 'limited' to pure, organic juices and broth. This slowing down of the sense of taste really enhances your taste buds, and once you start eating again, even a simple lettuce leaf tastes amazing!
The detox process naturally enhances your other senses too, but the beauty of detoxing in a retreat setting is that your sense of smell, sight, hearing and touch also get the opportunity to rest - on our yoga detox retreat you hear bird-song and the meditative sound of cicadas, you smell pine trees and wild herbs, you see the ocean and the sky, and you feel the warmth of the sun and the gentleness of the ocean breeze.
About two weeks before the yoga detox retreat, it is highly advisable that you cut out foods and liquids which are toxic, e.g. alcohol, coffee. I'll send you instructions to guide you in your pre-detox retreat preparation.
I'll also send you a health questionnaire to fill in. The information you impart is completely confidential and is helpful for me to ensure you benefit as much as possible from the retreat.
After the detox, acidophilus is provided for the two days we return to food whilst still on the retreat - this is to replace the friendly bacteria that may have been flushed from the colon. It is advisable that you continue taking acidophilus for a total of two weeks after the retreat, so perhaps organise to have it at home for your return.
I advise you as to how to continue eating once you return home. This is often easier than anticipated for when the body is clean, cravings for unhealthy food or drink often disappear as the body and mind have greater clarity as to what is needed for health and happiness!
